To car, or not to car

I was thinking the other day - is a car really essential? We live in a day and age where driving 30 or more minutes to get to work, dinner, church or anywhere else is no biggie. We hop in the car just to run down to the store to pick up some milk. We'd rather sit and be frustrated by peak hour traffic than stand and be frustrated by public transport.

I've been living without my car for a few days (it's getting some work done) and have really enjoyed walking everywhere, catching the ferry to and from work and occasionally getting a lift with my parents / bro. Makes me feel young and frolicsome again. Is that a word? Oh well, if not, I've just invented it.

Ooh, and I'm starting up my next new activity in a couple of weeks - private figure skating lessons! I'm quietly freaking out about it, cos I loooove watching it, know all the moves and am one of the biggest Michelle Kwan fans ever, but can just picture myself being totally un-co on the ice. Oh well, if I can learn horse riding and ballroom dancing, then why not figure skating? Wish me luck!

Baby did a bad bad thing

Well, not really.

I just (finally) redeemed some of the rewards points I've been accumulating for the past couple of years (since I lost them all in the Ansett collapse). Who redeems those things anyway? Is there a strategy? Are you supposed to wait until you've spent thousands of dollars in order to redeem something worth a couple of hundred? That logic never fails to fall over in a heap and yet we all keep doing it. Or do you redeem as you go on vouchers and movie tickets cos you have to pay your bills anyway, and so they're like little freebies?

Anyway, 60% of my points are gone now. Let's just hope my new xda is worth it!

State of Origin

I love Origin footie, NSW kicking butt, packed stadiums, kicking to keep play alive, converted tries, inside passes and unassuming heroes. Go Joey Johns.

Relive it. Love it. Rejoice.

Baby no more

My brother has officially:

1. turned the big ONE EIGHT.
2. got his P's
3. borrowed my car for the day, forcing his big sister to catch public transport when I've got mountains of stuff to take home, including my laptop, because I'm flying to Melbourne on Sunday night.

Heh!
