Lukewarm Idol

It was sad to see Anne go tonight - I even shed a tear. Of course, I didn't like her enough to actually pick up the phone and vote, but at least she didn't repulse or bore me as much as the other contestants.

So, we have 5 left. If we believe the hype, these are the 5 best singers left in Australia. Should I be worried yet? My weakly formed opinion is:

Emily
Most Improved. Recent weeks have impressed even me (ref: Upclose & Personal, Motown week). A bit on the yelly side, but beggars can't be choosers. I felt her 2 touchdowns were "desperation" touchdowns from Mark and possibly slightly undeserved, but she rocked singing "How Come You Don't Call Me No More" on the no-judges pseudo interview show on Friday night.

Lee
Can't sing for peanuts but I like him anyway, he brings colour (literally) to the show.

Kate
I'm sorry, there's nothing I like about Kate. I've tried and tried, but she has zero depth when she sings and hasn't improved in 7 weeks. Can't believe she wasn't bottom 3 tonight.

Dan England
Can't be bothered retyping what I wrote for Kate.

Daniel Spillane
Up until last night, see comments for Kate and Dan. Then suddenly, someone performed a brain transfusion and he now possesses a modicum of singing and moving ability. Note moving, not dancing. Still, between him and Anne tonight, no question, Daniel should have gone.

Highlights of this year's Idol? All the money I'm saving from not voting.

Bernadette Wittenberg

Oh golly. I'm glad I was sitting down when I read this one.

Bernadette Peters is my all time favourite Broadway performer. I don't think she has the purest technique or beautiful voice, but she always puts such emotion into her singing and invests herselves in the lyrics. Something I admire a lot.

I was casually checking her bio on ibdb.com, when I read this

Wife of Michael Wittenberg (1996 - 2005) deceased

Her husband, Michael, was killed in a helicopter accident just 4 weeks ago, at the age of 43. It justs reminds me how none of us can plot and plan out where life is going to take us. It makes me all the more grateful for what time I have here and knowing that I can trust my eternity to God.

The heartwrenching thing is Bernadette went through with a charity concert just 3 weeks after the accident. I have several of her CDs and DVDs and so many of the songs would have take on a completely different meaning in the light of everything. *sigh*

"I chose and my world was shaken. So what? The choice may have been mistaken; the choosing was not. You have to move on." (Move On, Sunday in the Park with George)

"Sometimes people leave you, halfway through the wood. Others may deceive you You decide what's good. You decide alone, But no one is alone." (No One is Alone, Into the Woods)

Aus Idol 3 Formal Complaint

Why is Australian Idol 3 so bland this year? Wwwaaaaahhh

It's taken me weeks to warm to any of this year's contestants and a few "favourites" (and I do use the term loosely) are only just now emerging. I like Lee cos he's funny and a natural on stage (though he doesn't have the best voice in the world). I like Anne cos she's competent and smooth-toned (though she always looks like she's about to cry). I think that's about it actually. Darn it!

Give me something to watch people!!! Something that doesn't make me cringe every week, mutter incoherently at the TV in a running commentary, or make me wish I'd auditioned in a moment of insanity, or run upstairs to watch my video clips of American Idol 1 or Canadian Idol 2 while whimpering quietly.

Please, somebody redeem this season for me already.

How do you solve a problem like....

She climbs a tree
And scrapes her knee
Her dress has got a tear
She waltzes on her way to mass
And whistles on the stair

I am so glad it's the weekend. Home to peace and quiet, my cuddly doona and sleep!
