The Black Dog

Wow, this recent article takes me back. I remember the shock when I first heard about it 2 years ago, through friends of friends - the email chain that spreads like wildfire when it concerns the deeply hilarious or deeply tragic.

Tristan was someone I knew through school and Christian circles. We graduated from "cousin" schools in the same year, but we'd also crossed paths through debating, drama, prefect functions etc. It seems that each year, more and more people are diagnosed with clinical depression. Parents, school children, high flyers, under achievers, rich, poor. It's a disease that knows no discrimination. It especially touches a core in me to know that for Christians - even the imperishable hope of heaven is sometimes not enough to pull away at the murky greyness that depression overcasts your life on earth. Or perhaps, it is the only thing that makes sense.
